eBiking the Five Fudo Myoo Temples Around Central Tokyo

A friend posted about "Meao Fudo-son" on Facebook, and I initially wondered if it was a mistake for the famous Meguro Fudo-son. But the photos looked different, and I figured they wouldn't mix up Meguro and Meao, so I looked it up. That's when I discovered the Edo Goshiki Fudo. These five Fudo statues are arranged in a circle around central Tokyo, and I thought it would be fun to visit them all on my eBike, so I set out right away.

Heading to “Kuma” in Northern Hamamatsu, affectionately called “Kunma”

Northern Hamamatsu, a mountainous area with beautiful rivers that leads to Shinshu, is almost like a hidden gem. It's not super famous, so it's usually not too crowded, making it a favorite spot I love to visit whenever I have some free time. I decided to go cycling around the 'Michi-no-Eki Kunma Suisha no Sato' (roadside station), which I'd been curious about for a while.

Chinkabashi (Submersible Bridges) aren’t only in Shimanto River!

When I was looking at the Ise-Kumano cycling route on Japan Ecotrack, it mentioned 8 submersible bridges (Chinkabashi) on the Kushida River. For some reason, I'd always thought Chinkabashi were unique to the Shimanto River, so I was surprised! That got me wanting to see them, so I went for a ride on the Miyagawa-Kahadakyo cycling route.

Cycling to Shimoguri no Sato

I stumbled upon Shimoguri no Sato when I was looking at a map to find Yarodo, one of the trailheads for Mt. Hijiri in the Southern Alps. After some research, I found it's described as Japan's Tyrol, a place of stunning beauty with a small village clinging to the side of a mountain. I'd wanted to visit someday.

Cycling from Senzu to Ikawa

Oku-oi, with its steam locomotives, Abt-style trains climbing steep inclines, the incredibly smooth Sumatakyo Onsen, and the beautiful Dream Suspension Bridge over an emerald green river, has so many sights you'll never get bored. I've traveled there by car and train before, but this time I decided to try cycling the round trip from Senzu to Ikawa on an eBike.

To Atashika, a Place of Cherished Memories

When I was a kid, I developed hives after moving to Tokyo. I often missed school because we couldn't figure out the cause. The place that changed me was Kishu, and what really stuck in my memory from that time were the place name "Atashika" and its beautiful sea. This time, I went on a short trip to retrace those memories.

Kanzanji Temple and Kanzan Stroll

I was supposed to go to Hamamatsu Flower Park... I hadn't been feeling well all week and had been working remotely from home, so I decided to cycle for just over an hour to Hamamatsu Flower Park to get some exercise. Plus, the Hamanako Flower Expo 2024 had just finished, so I figured it would be […]

Cycling to Fukude Fishing Port

I often see the name 'Fukude Fishing Port' on fresh fish sold at local fish markets. It had always piqued my interest, so I decided to cycle there. The adorable fishing port buildings caught my eye, but even more so did the delicious 'Mochi Katsuo' (sticky bonito) and fresh 'Nama Shirasu' (raw whitebait) available at Nagisa no Koryukan, an adjacent facility. The late lunch of raw whitebait rice bowl and beltfish bone crackers was absolutely exquisite!

Sengan Waterfall and Dlofres Campus

Weekend eBike cycling adventure! This time, I headed to Sengan Waterfall, which I found on Google Maps, and Dlofres Campus in Miyakoda. Sengan Waterfall's emerald basin was stunning, and I was surprised to find such a beautiful spot so close to the city. Dlofres Campus, which I'd been curious about for a while, turned out to be an absolute paradise for Nordic design lovers!

Quietly Thrilled at the JASDF Air Park

It's not just about the Hamamatsu Air Base Air Festa. I knew from the massive crowds at the station that the annual air show gets packed, but I only recently found out about the Air Park museum right next to the base.
