Who would’ve thought I’d get to visit the JAL factory for work!
I often exchange information with people from other industries, but I totally lucked out with this chance to visit the JAL factory for work. I’ve always wanted to visit an ANA or JAL factory tour someday, but due to scheduling conflicts and the tough lottery system, I’d never been able to see one until now.
Because I studied aerospace engineering…
Since I was in aerospace engineering, I’ve studied a bit about airplanes. So, having a real one right in front of me isn’t just about being amazed by its sheer size; my eyes are naturally drawn to its equipment and mechanisms, and I just can’t help but blurt things out! (lol)

“Oh, I didn’t realize a real pitot tube was actually quite big!”

“Yep, the wings have fuel tanks, don’t they?”

Perhaps because I kept blurting out my observations, the JAL staff actually ended up teaching me a lot of things too, like how the Boeing 737 engine has a slightly squashed rice ball shape on the underside, or about the differences in main wing shapes.

I had no idea that engines “open up” like this for maintenance.
The maintenance hangar is incredibly spacious!

JAL has two maintenance hangars, and on this day, one of them had no aircraft inside, so I could really get a sense of just how vast it was.

Since the premises are so large, there are bicycles available, and it seems people sometimes use them to get around.
Planes taking off right in front of the hangar!

There’s a runway right in front of the hangar, so you can watch planes take off with incredible impact, and it’s just so thrilling!

The well-balanced form of an airplane is truly beautiful.
